Rings inside rings, pink, yellow and lilac, and from the centre small buds on fine lines radiate to the edges of the cream ground, where spirals turn in each corner. Af Klint called her biggest canvases *The Ten Largest* and said they showed the ages of a human life. Number eleven shows the ages of a phone, which arrive every few seconds and each want an answer.
The brief
A large pastel diagram of a spiral of concentric circles connected by delicate lines, small buds and rings suggesting messages radiating outward, pink and yellow on cream. Early twentieth-century spiritual abstraction, large diagrammatic compositions of spirals, concentric circles, petals and snail shells in pale pink, egg yellow, sky blue and lilac on a cream ground, delicate line work with small lettering-like marks, symmetrical mystical schemas, tempera flatness with visible pencil underdrawing. Museum photograph of the painting on canvas, flat even lighting, no frame, no text, no wall, no floor, cropped to the canvas edge.
