A woman in a long coat stands on a dune at dawn, and before her a line of white turbines walks out into the sea mist, each one fainter than the last until they are only a rhythm. The light is violet and grey. Friedrich's women face a sunrise or a sunset they cannot reach, arms open. This one keeps her hands in her pockets. What she is looking at works.

German Romantic oil painting, a single figure seen from behind standing before a vast luminous landscape, fog and mist dissolving the middle distance, cold blue-grey and violet dawn light, bare trees and rock rendered with meticulous fine brushwork, immense silence and symmetry, thin smooth glazes, an atmosphere of longing.
