A sea like mould, a sky torn into a vortex, and at its centre, barely there, the white cross of one turbine. The sun has broken through at the right and turned the spray to gold. Turner claimed he had himself lashed to a mast to watch a snowstorm at sea. He would have watched this one from the deck of a supply boat, and he would have sent the boat away.

An offshore wind farm in a violent storm, turbines faintly visible through spray and a vortex of cloud, a burst of sun breaking through. English Romantic oil painting, forms dissolving into luminous atmosphere, swirling vortex of golden light, sea spray and storm cloud, a barely legible man-made structure at the centre of the turbulence, impasto scumbled whites and yellows, warm ochre and cold grey, sublime scale, thin glazes and thick highlights. Museum photograph of the oil painting, even gallery lighting, no frame, no text, no wall, no floor, cropped to the canvas edge.
