A young man in an orange jacket and helmet looks straight at us, tired, patient, not smiling, the insulated bag still on his back. The green behind him swirls. Van Gogh painted the postman Roulin six times, and his whole family besides, because a man who carries things for a living has a face worth the paint. The jacket is loud. The eyes are not.

A portrait of a young delivery rider in a bright orange jacket and helmet against a swirling green background, tired direct gaze. Post-Impressionist oil painting, thick directional impasto strokes that swirl and vibrate, cobalt and chrome yellow in violent harmony, outlined forms, exaggerated perspective, energetic sky and ground, emotional intensity in ordinary subjects, heavy paint texture casting its own shadows. Museum photograph of the oil painting, even gallery lighting revealing impasto, no frame, no text, no wall, no floor, cropped to the canvas edge.
