A huge orange arc sweeps up out of a heap of small overlapping semicircles, red, yellow, blue and black, while black wedges drive in from the edges. The heap is the crowd. The arc is the noise it makes when the ball goes in. Kandinsky thought a painting could sound like a symphony. This one sounds like sixty thousand people who have all just stood up at once.

Early twentieth-century abstract oil painting, floating circles, wedges, arcs and thin black lines in a dynamic composition, primary reds, yellows and blues against pale grounds, geometric forms in tension with free painterly marks, musical rhythm and movement, matte oil surface.
