Sixteen open cases of white earbuds in a four-by-four grid, each on its own acid ground: yellow, pink, turquoise, black. The misregistration makes the white buds shiver. Warhol loved an object that everybody owned, because the president drinks the same Coke as the man on the corner. Everybody owns these too. Hardly anybody still owns both of them after a year.
The brief
A pair of white wireless earbuds in their open case repeated in a four by four grid, each in a different acid colour combination. Pop art silkscreen on canvas, a photographic image reduced to high-contrast flat blocks of garish colour, repeated in a grid with slight misregistration between prints, acid pink, yellow, turquoise and black, deadpan commercial flatness, screen texture and ink bleed. Museum photograph of the silkscreen canvases, flat even lighting, no frame, no text, no wall, no floor, cropped to the canvas edge.
Written to the house rules. The painter's name does not appear.
